Incredible. The Sacramento, CA city council last week voted, unanimously, to use city taxpayer funds to help illegal immigrants fight deportation and other related issues.
Three hundred thousand taxpayer dollars will be channeled to various non-profit organizations and used to provide legal guardianships to children of illegal immigrants, as well as powers of attorney to assist in protecting their illegals’ bank accounts and homes. Some of the funds will be used to educate illegals on their legal rights.
Sacramento City Councilman Eric Guerra had led a task force that developed the proposal to allocate city funds for the project. Guerra explained, “The reality is there is a lot of fear. We can alleviate that fear.”
Others voiced different views on the action. Jennifer Garets, board member of the Sacramento Republican Women Federated, told the Sacramento Bee, “I don’t think that taxpayer money should be used to support this. I’d rather it be given to the homeless.” Ms. Garets also referred to the city council’s decision as “disgusting.”
Indeed, the Sacramento city council has put the interests of non-citizens above the interests of the citizens of that city that are most in need, including the homeless.
Illegal immigrants are law-breakers. Thus, the word “illegal” in the term “illegal immigrants.” The city council of California’s capital has approved a plan, by unanimous vote, to use taxpayer money to support law-breakers! Sacramento residents who aren’t soft-headed progressives have a right to feel angry about the city using their tax dollars for this purpose.
The inconsistency and hypocrisy of the Left is, once again, overwhelming. When President Eisenhower federalized the Arkansas National Guard to force Arkansas to comply with “the law of the land” in 1954 and desegregate that state’s schools, that was a good thing. When the Supreme Court declares that marriage is a Constitutionally-protected right, “the law of the land,” which must be followed by all states, that is also a good thing. But when gun rights advocates insist that their rights must be obeyed pursuant to the Second Amendment, because it is “the law of the land,” the Left believes that particular “law of the land” should be ignored.
The same principle appears to govern the Left’s thinking on immigration. Although the U.S. Constitution gave Congress the loan power to make laws regarding immigration into the country, the Left has determined that, in this case, states and municipalities have the right to ignore “the law of the land.”
Ultimately, liberals believe the highest legal authority in the United States is not the U.S. Constitution. Rather, it is whatever they determine the law should be.
Forget about the Constitution, forget about legal precedent. The Left clearly does not want a republican form of government, but rather, Marxist tyranny.
