BREAKING NEWS: Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security will be pursing criminal charges against leaders of sanctuary cities, according to the Washington Times.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen confirmed Tuesday that her department has asked federal prosecutors to see if they can lodge criminal charges against sanctuary cities that refuse to cooperate with federal deportation efforts.

“The Department of Justice is reviewing what avenues may be available,” Ms. Nielsen told the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Her confirmation came after California’s new sanctuary law went into effect Jan. 1, which is in direct conflict with federal law.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan said city and local officials will be charged, since they are complicit in breaking federal law and human smuggling. Shielding illegal immigrants via sanctuary policies is effectively a form of human smuggling.

For far too long, cities like Los Angeles have given the middle finger to federal law, instructing their police officers not to turn in illegal immigrants to federal authorities. Often, illegal immigrants convicted of federal crimes–including rape and murder–are set free on U.S. soil.

And of course, there have been several instances where such freed illegal immigrants have gone on to kill American cities. Such was the case when Kate Steinle was tragically shot dead by an illegal immigrant in California.

Are you happy that the Trump Administration is finally taking action?
