A well-known model has been vacationing in the Maldives, where she boldly bucked Sharia law, even though it could get her slapped with a hefty fine or even sent to prison. The Islamic nation has strict rules for its guests and residents, so Muslims were furious to see that she broke one of their most important codes of conduct with what she did on the beach.
British model Katie Price was photographed on a private island in the Indian Ocean where she is staying at the newly-opened Kandima Maldives Resort with her 30-year-old husband Kieran Hayler and their five children. The property, which can cost up to $1,000 per night per couple, boasts luxury beach-side villas, yoga and meditation classes, and the biggest swimming pool in the Maldives.
Despite all of that, the Maldives, which is made up of more than 1,000 coral islands, is a strict Islamic nation, where Sharia law is enforced. That means no nudity or topless sunbathing, something which Price has a penchant for. The 38-year-old was seen frolicking on the beach with nothing at all covering her newly-enhanced 32GG breasts, and the stunt could cost her big time.
“This is not allowed, and if it is true and complaint is made, the local station will start to investigate,” the Maldives Police Service told The Sun. “This is against the law, and we take these allegations very seriously.” Price could be slapped with a large fine for her topless beach time or even be sent to jail.
Foreign Office advice on the government’s website tells would-be visitors, “Local laws reflect the fact that Maldives is an Islamic country. Serious violations of local laws may lead to a prison sentence. Nudism and topless sunbathing are not allowed anywhere, including on resort islands.”
However, another vacationer said that Price’s behavior wasn’t at all out of the ordinary, commenting, “People go topless at the resorts, even on the beaches, all the time and don’t get in any trouble at all.” Still, one local said, “The Muslims will be very upset by it.”
Sharia law mandates that women must remain completely covered, especially in public. In the Maldives, alcohol is also heavily regulated and can only be enjoyed inside the various resorts. Pork is banned, but available to guests staying at resort hotels for a premium price. Additionally, visitors are prohibited from possessing pornography.
It’s interesting to note that Muslim migrants often refuse to assimilate to Western laws and customs, but when an infidel is in their country, they expect you to follow the laws of the land. Even if you don’t agree with women going topless on the beach, it sure is great to watch them squirm when the shoe is on the other foot.
