Donald Trump has faced an uphill battle in the election since the release of a 2005 tape showing him making lewd comments about women. Since then, other soundbites have been released of him making rude or inappropriate comments; many of those comments were made during Trump’s various appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show.

In the wake of the outrage, however, Stern is taking a big stand for Trump.

According to the Daily Caller, Stern slammed the mainstream media for digging up old quotes Trump made during his interviews. Stern says that Trump’s comments were intentionally embellished for the sake of entertainment — as often happens on his show.

He said, “These conversations that I had with Donald Trump weren’t done in private like the Billy Bush tapes. This was on the radio. Why don’t I play all the tapes? I have to tell you why — I feel Donald Trump did the show in an effort to be entertaining and have fun with us, and I feel like it would be a betrayal to any of our guests if I sat there and played them now where people are attacking him.”

Stern continued, “I fully knew what I was doing when I interviewed Trump. I knew I had a guy who loved to talk about sex. I had a guy who loved to evaluate women on a scale of 1-10. These are avenues I went down because I knew it would entertain the audience. I wasn’t imagining that I would be in the middle of this election and literally so prominently mentioned. Quite frankly, as someone just said, I’m surprised they didn’t find these earlier. There’s nothing to find. As the guy said, they were right there in the open.”

Stern went on to talk about how shocked he was when Trump told him he would be running for president.

He said, “I said, ‘Why are you doing this?’ Why would a guy with billions of dollars [run for president]? Don’t you know what they’re gonna do to you? Don’t you know they’re gonna open up everything? A lot of the show that I’ve been doing for my entire life, radio show publicly, is an effort to sort of do ‘locker room talk,’ to express all kinds of shit and just not even care what anyone thinks.”

Liberals and many in the media are outraged that Stern has dared to come to Trump’s defense.
