There are lots of things that liberals do not want you to say. The list of offensive words and phrases grows every day. This week, Bill O’Sullivan, the senior editor of the Washingtonian magazine found a new phrase to be offended by: “Start A Family”.
In a recent editorial, O’Sullivan said that the phrase “Starting a Family” is both “loathsome” and “offensive” to both single people and couples without children. He writes,
What this euphemism means is get pregnant—or try to get pregnant, or have a baby, or adopt. So say that. Start a family devalues any couple who doesn’t happen to have kids, for whatever reason. It even sells single people short, who may not have children but do have “chosen” families of friends—not to mention families of origin (the ready-made kind, no assembly required). Twenty or more years ago, I would have said this expression was heterosexist, but now it’s in the everyday lexicon of LGBT people as well. (Though I have to say I still hear it more often from straight people. Just saying!) For the sake of all the ways to be in the world, it’s time to put an end to start a family.
This sounds more like a satirical Saturday Night Live comedy sketch making fun of political correctness. But it’s not. This liberal is genuinely offended by the word “family” and the phrase “start a family”. Because, you know, it’s “heterosexist” – whatever that means.
Bill O’Sullivan, the most offended man in America
The Middle East is burning, we are $19 trillion in debt, and our former Secretary of State may have shared national secrets with our enemies via her email account. Yet banning family-friendly words is the issue liberals find so important.
Just when you think Washington DC liberals can’t get any more out of touch with reality, they manage to outdo themselves.
