Conservatives across the country are expressing outrage over allegations of judicial activism and overreach following the issuance of a temporary injunction against President Donald Trump’s second travel ban.
Sean Hannity took aim at the U.S. district court judge who delivered the ruling, Judge Derrick Watson. On his Wednesday radio show he claimed Watson’s close ties to former President Barack Obama should have prompted a recusal.
“This judge who issued the travel ban ruling is an Obama law school classmate. Maybe he should have recused himself from the case?” asked Hannity.
The connecting evidence between Obama and Watson is not just that they both graduated from Harvard Law in 1991, alongside current Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch, but also that Obama visited Hawaii just days before Watson issued his ruling.
As Hannity continued to question the relationship between Obama and Watson, he went so far as to suggest the two may have done drugs together over the course of their relationship.
“Just maybe, were they best friends in Hawaii? Were they part of the ‘choom gang,’ smoking pot and hanging out, and doing a little bit of weed, and maybe even a little blow?” he asked.
Hannity’s question doesn’t cross the line considering Obama’s past drug use is no secret and was a topic of conversation discussed throughout his presidency.
The former president himself has been candid about his past drug use and the ‘choom gang’ as Obama describes the nickname he and his pot smoking friends gave themselves.
A passage from Obama’s book Dreams from my Father: I had learned not to care. I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it.
The American citizens have been kept in the dark, as far as whether Judge Watson was a member of Obama’s inner circle of friends, and just how close they are now.
