The country music world is sending prayers for legend Willie Nelson as concern about Nelson’s health mounts. During an April 22nd onstage performance in New Braunfels, Texas, the 83-year-old appeared disoriented and left the stage for about 20 minutes while his band continued to play.
After the band’s first song in the set, “Whiskey River,” Nelson put his guitar down and walked off the stage, as the band kept playing without its singer and anxiousness rose amongst the audience.
When Nelson returned, the audience erupted, and he led his band through standards like ‘On The Road Again,’ Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys,’ and ‘Always On My Mind.’ He still appeared out of sorts although he gamely played and sang on.
After a few songs Nelson appeared able to shake off what was ailing him and finished the concert on a high note, with singer Kacey Musgraves joining him and the band about halfway through the set until its conclusion.
Ultimately, the fans in attendance were happy and grateful to catch the country legend’s performance. Still, there is an undercurrent of concern for the health status of Nelson.
Concerns about Nelson’s health condition are frequent, often promoted by viral internet rumor mills about death or illness hoaxes. However, the timeless entertainer is getting on in years and some of the health concerns have been valid. Earlier this year Nelson cancelled seven shows due to undisclosed health concerns.
Let’s all keep Willie Nelson in our prayers. He is truly one of America’s great entertainers.
