Even before Donald Trump was inaugurated, Democrat lawmakers were scheming to try and figure out a way to get him impeached. Now that he has been in the White House for a month, these bitter Democrats have launched a truly vile plan to force Trump out of office in a sick way.
The Hill reported that a growing number of Democrats in Congress are openly questioning Trump’s mental health in the hopes of invoking the 25th Amendment to impeach him. Rep. These liberal politicians include Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), and Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), each of whom are trying to put forth legislation that would allow former presidents and vice presidents to determine if Trump is mentally unfit for office.
Lieu is currently working on a piece of legislation that would make it mandatory for a psychologist to be in the White House at all times observing Trump. Franken has been running around claiming that even “a few” Republicans have come to him with questions about Trump’s mental stability, though he hasn’t named any names.
Blumenauer, however, has gone the furthest of any Democrat so far, as he blatantly questioned Trump’s mental health during a speech on the House floor last week. At the moment, the Oregon representative is trying to introduce legislation that would allow for living former presidents and vice presidents to form that body that would determine whether the president is mentally fit for office.
In an op-ed published last week, Blumenauer wrote that there is a “fatal flaw” in the 25th Amendment. He claimed this flaw is that it allows the sitting president to fire his own Cabinet, which he said would “prevent the application of the amendment.”
“The alternative process spelled out by the amendment leaves the decision to the vice president and a so-far-undefined body created by Congress,” the congressman said.
He thinks it would be better for former presidents and vice presidents to come together regularly to determine whether a president is mentally fit to hold office.
Meanwhile, mental health experts on all sides of the political spectrum have warned that allegations about Trump’s mental health are baseless because mental illness can’t be diagnosed simply from watching someone’s interviews and speeches.
“You cannot diagnose someone in the public eye based solely on their TV interviews,” said Los Angeles-based cardiologist and internist Dr. Afshine Emrani. “A lot of these things are politically motivated and it irks me. That’s like me saying someone has heart problems by just seeing them on a TV show. You need to see the patient, examine them, take blood and perform an ECG. You can’t diagnose a heart attack by someone saying they have chest pain on TV. Psychiatry is the same.”
