Barack Hussein Obama planned to cash in on his post-presidency like nobody else has before by charging $400,000 for every speech he gives while also taking a $200,000 annual pension from the government. Unfortunately for him, however, Congress is about to ruin his plans in a big way.
Daily Mail reported that Congress is planning to cancel Obama’s pension due to the amount he is charging for his speeches. Former presidents receive $207,800 per year, but lawmakers are considering a move to shrink that income for Oval Office retirees who collect more than $400,000 in income.
Last year, Obama vetoed a bill that would have done this.
“The Obama hypocrisy on this issue is revealing,” Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz told USA Today. “His veto was very self-serving.”
Chaffetz is teaming up with Iowa Republican Sen. Joni Ernst to introduce the legislation again very soon. Insiders say the bill will likely go through since the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight committee, Elijah Cummings, probably won’t stand in it’s way.
“Cummings definitely supports the concept, and if we can work out the technical issues with the bill that arose late in the last Congress, we expect he would strongly support it again,” his spokeswoman Jennifer Hoffman Werner.
