Chicago Weekend Shootings Bring the Yearly Total to Near 1000

As of Sunday afternoon, 31 people were shot, five of which were killed in Chicago after a violent weekend, according to the Tribune and Chicago Sun Times.

This latest shooting spree brings the total to 992 people being shot in Chicago this year. The Tribune data shows that last year the city reached 1,054 by this time.

Adding to the statistics was a 19 year old male was shot in the chest while in a car in the West Side’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. Although the driver sped to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A 21 year old male was shot in the head in the far South Side. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was also pronounced dead.

About 15 minutes earlier on the South Side, a 22-year-old man was shot in the head and hip while getting out of a car, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died.

According to local WGNTV, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel ran with police recruits to promote a reduction in violence.

Emmanuel served in Bill Clinton’s White House and ran Barack Obama’s as chief of staff. “Running” with the recruits won’t solve this cities desperate situation. Perhaps the Mayor should listen to Donald Trump when he gave him a “wake up call” regarding Chicago’s out of control murder rates.
