Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps on Staten Island found five Mexican nationals in the past week and a half, as reported by Make the Road New York, an immigrant advocacy group.

The group reported that the five individuals taken by ICE officers were male, and four have children that are US citizens. They stated that the raids took place on February 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th.

It is believed by Make the Road that several of these men are now in detention centers located in New Jersey.

“What we have seen is that the incidents in Staten Island are consistent with what we’ve seen with the surge of ICE activity in the last week,” Theo Oshiro, deputy director of Make the Road New York said.

Pursuant to an executive order signed by Trump last month, immigration authorities arrested hundreds of undocumented immigrants in at least six states in raids this past week.

That executive order expanded who that federal government would target for arrest and expulsion. ICE now has a mandate to apprehend undocumented immigrants if they have ever been accused of any crime, even “where such charge has not been resolved.” Unlike how President Barak Obama only focused on individuals with violent convictions.

Trump has also signed executive orders that call for federal funding cuts for sanctuary cities, which offer save haven to undocumented immigrants, and the construction of a wall on the Mexican border.

In his first interview as president-elect, Trump said that he would deport or incarcerate up to three million undocumented immigrants who he says are “criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers,” claiming that the country has “a lot of these people.” Experts estimate his executive order could impact more than two-thirds of foreign nationals who entered or who have remained in the United States without authorization. An estimated eight million people.

The Mayor’s spokesman, Eric Phillips, seemed to confirm that the raids took place.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
