American gymnast Gabby Douglas may have brought home a gold medal for the U.S. with her team this week, but she certainly won’t be welcomed home here with open arms…
CBS Local reported that Douglas was caught on camera refusing to put her hand over her heart as the national anthem played after her victory. Though her teammates all had their hands on their chests, Douglas’s were firmly at her side.
Twitter quickly exploded with patriots slamming Douglas for disrespecting our great nation.
Douglas tried to backtrack after receiving the backlash, claiming that she “never meant any disrespect.”
“In response to a few tweets I saw tonight, I always stand at attention out of respect for our country whenever the national anthem is played. I never meant any disrespect and apologize if I offended anyone. I’m so overwhelmed at what our team accomplished today and overjoyed that we were able to bring home another gold for our country!” Douglas tweeted.

Unfortunately for her, however, it looks like the damage has already been done.
